Thinking

Yes even this topic is not safe from my opinion. As a writer my brain is always on and thinking. Being a writer and avid reader two quotes come to mind; one about an authors mind and the other about thinking. I’ll give you the quotes first then launch into my opinion on thinking.

Author mind quote: “Writers’ minds are junkheeps of odd information.” ~ Stephen King

Thinking quote: “Thinking is the hardest work there is, which is probably the reason why so few engage in it.” ~ Henry Ford

I came across the Stephen King quote in a collection of his short stories titled The Bazaar of Bad Dreams. He has a short intro before each story. As a fan and writer I love the insight it provides me. Anyway that quote jumped out at me because I’m always taking information in and never know where I might use it. My brain is a warehouse of information with a computer analyzing it, always thinking.

That is where the second quote from Henry Ford came in for this random thought. Although I’m going to modify it by adding the words ‘for ones self’ after thinking. Before you start shouting at your computer, phone or tablet; saying she just did not go there, let me finish and as I state in all my posts ‘form your own opinion.

Am I not always challenging you as one of my readers. I present you with my opinion or view of a subject then I present you with the facts and ask you to think and form your own opinion. This was how I was trained when I was in college getting my Journalism degree. This was how news was presented back in the day before computers, social media and fake news.

We as a society are bombarded with all kinds of information and told how to think, not to think for ones self anymore. I have always been one to think for myself and have found myself picked on, bullied and exiled because of it.

Since the beginning of 2020, the start of the Corona Virus pandemic, I found that researching and thinking for ones self was not popular, expressing what you found and what you were going to be doing was even less popular. Thinking for myself and expressing those thoughts caused me to those friends, didn’t need them anyway; however what hurt the most was some of my husbands family excluding us from a gathering due to not choosing to be vaccinated due to medication allergies.

Fast forward to 2023 the pandemic is over masks are no longer required, the vaccinations are not being pushed as much, but things are still not back to normal. My thoughts on the last 4 years is that the pandemic was a way to jump start a population decrease, think survival of the fittest. What are we hearing about now in the news, Forest fires, what they are destroying, how many lives are lost as well as homes lost.

The most recent news of the Maui, Hawaii forest fires cause me to think of many questions and I know many of those questions will not be popular only because most of us don’t want to even think that a government would go that far.

I am ending this post with a challenge to you my readers. Think, ask questions, and decide for yourself who or what to believe.
