Let me start by saying Happy New Year! New Year new resolutions to better ourselves right? Well for me calling it a resolution is were everything goes wrong. Yep you read that correctly, I like to call my New Years resolutions goals instead.
I changed the format of my thinking from “New Years Resolutions” to “New Years Goals” three years ago. In doing so I noticed that I accomplished most of the goals, only a handful were not completed and part of that handful were almost finished so I rolled them over to the next year. For me changing my way of thinking helped me to keep my “New Years Resolutions”.
I told my Husband what I was doing so he tried it too and it worked for him as well. Now come on, own up to it. A show of comments how many of you don’t actually fail or give up but lose your resolve sometime shortly after the start of the year? Don’t be shy we’ve all been there, done that, and may even have the now all too small t-shirt.
After finding that changing the wording in my thought format helped me accomplish more of my goals, I extended this process to other areas of my thinking and it is slowly working. Give it a try, start with something small and, if it works, move on to something bigger. Try changing a vague resolution from ‘losing weight’ to something more specific like ‘walking 3 times a week and eating more fruits and vegetables’ or something similar and let me know how it works for you with a comment below.
